Defending God's Truth

5. A False View of God's Word

The Bible says:

Genesis 3:1

“NOW the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?”

The first thing Satan did in the Garden of Eden was to attack the integrity and the authority of the very Word of God. He is still doing that today.

7 Biblical Facts About God’s Word:

1. All Scripture is Inspired by God.

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:”

2 Timothy 3:16

The Old Testament writers used the term: “thus saith the Lord” or its equivalent more than 2,000 times. (see 2 Samuel 23:1-3; Jeremiah 1:9; Habakkuk 2:2)

2. The Word of God is Eternal.

“Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.”

John 10:28

“The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.”

Isaiah 40:8

“But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.”

1 Peter 1:25

3. We Will be Judged by God’s Word.

“He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.”

John 12:48

4. Our Faith is Built Upon God’s Word.

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

Romans 10:17

5. The Bible is not Just Man’s Words.

“For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.”

1 Thessalonians 2:13

6. Bible Prophecy is From God.

20 “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”

2 Peter 1:20-21

7. The Word of God Protects Us.

12. “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

15. And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16. Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

17. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:”

Ephesians 6:12-18

There are 3 Types of False Views:

1. Extrabiblical Revelation:

   God’s Word + something.

2. Segmented Biblical Attention:

    Focusing on certain scriptures.

3. Uncertain Hope:

    Causing people to doubt the pure promises of God.

3 “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”

2 Timothy 4:3-4

16 “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.”

2 Timothy 3:16-17

We don’t need the Bible, plus other books and writings. It isn’t the Bible plus something else. Notice how many times man’s own thoughts or writings are thought of to be superior to God’s Word.
